About
Sardar Patel College of Engineering was established in 1962 and the Structural Engineering Department is part of the college since its inception. Later on Mathematics and Communication Skills faculties are also attached to the Department. The department is growing continuously over the years. Besides high quality teaching and instruction at both UG and PG levels, the department is actively involved in material testing, stability assessment / condition survey of structures and consultancy for various government and private organizations. The Structural Department has well equipped laboratories as per the curriculum needs and is also running a value added courses on STAAD-Pro so as to create better opportunities for the students in their campus placement. The department with its highly qualified and experienced faculty continues to maintain and cultivate its strong links with the industry and academic institutions within the country.

Concrete Technology Lab and Structural Dynamics Lab is extensively used by UG students for practical’s and PG students for the research projects. The former is also one of the prime resource generating Lab.
Testing of Materials
Apart from the routine testing of various types of construction materials, the department has undertaken special tests as under:
- Concrete mix design including higher grade concrete using accelerated curing technique
- Polymer modified mortar - specimen preparation and testing
- Load tests on beams and slabs including manhole covers
- Rebound Hammer and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test on Concrete
- Chloride and Sulphate content of cement mortar concrete
